chicka chicka! boom boom! can you find your first grade room?

yes, you can.  it's mine. and here it is.

this is my home. okay, more like my second home.  MY CLASSROOM!

i know it's been awhile, but i've been spending TONS of time in this place.  which is why it is my second home.  if i knew i would be teaching at this school longer, and if i had more coins clanking around in my piggy bank, then i would make it more homey, but i work with what i have, and this is what i came up with for this year.

this is our chicka boom tree with falling letters and monkeys outside our room. my team has been doing this for awhile, and i love it.  we do a big chicka! chicka! boom! boom! activity with the book the first day.  hint: scavenger hunt around the school for abc's.

check-in! homework drop and lunch count.

ugly puke green chairs {from the 70s, i'm sure}.

what you see when you enter...

king/queen of the day {obviously, i was the first queen}.

my "desk" and cubbies and calendar wall.

front of the classroom--carpet area and some other wonderful things.

and my relocated reading table and word wall and reading area {this is where i wish i had some dollars so i could buy a cute little bench from ikea, but i think they're like $80. yikes. amazon? or maybe live without it since i won't even be using it.}

i totally miss my old class, like some of them i miss a lot. but i get bombarded by former students throughout recess and in the lunchroom and before/after school, so it's great. and two of my all-time {2 years guys + 3rd just started} favorite students have given me multiple hugs and huge smiles and my heart melts every time.
on a brighter note. remember how crazy my class was last year? oh my word they were SO chatty and had a difficult time following directions.  i can tell, after 2 days, that this class will be better.  i do have a couple that will be challenging behaviorally, but they are both SO cute and have fun personalities {not naughty}.  and, as my third year, and second year in first grade, i am teaching procedures much better because i have learned from my mistakes, and i am modeling everything even more.

and yesterday i was completely exhausted. this is how i ended my evening: running and then yoga.  i couldn't think of a better way to shake off all of the stress and get my mind off of everything.

stay tuned for some good stories. there sure to come this year.
