and another anniversary post.

steven had this grand plan to surprise me for a weekend away at park city for our first anniversary.
i know, i know. he is so romantic!
don't think so fast.  mr. romantic forgot that our calendars are synced! so whatever he puts on his google calendar or on the ipad shows up on my iphone. waa waa.
i probably wouldn't have noticed if i hadn't clicked the wrong date when i was looking for something else on my calendar. it was then that i noticed a reservation for friday night - saturday morning.
you may be thinking, "well, heidi. why did you have to go and spoil it? why didn't you act surprised?"
for these reasons, i did not.
1) i don't fake surprises very well.
2) i was excited and didn't want to fake a surprise {see no. 1}

our weekend started like this:
--dinner at carrabas. i had never been there. it's a nice italian place. i think they have them all over, but obviously none near my hometown because i've never been to/seen one before. i ordered this chicken that had goat cheese and sundried tomatoes on top with a lemon basil reduction. MMM. so good. steven had...[drum roll]...pizza! i had a bite. it was pretty good.
[i'm very picky about my pizza. it's like homemade or bust. cpk thai chicken pizza is mm good but i threw up after one time and haven't ordered it since. plus es no bueno for your GI tract.]

--next, we headed up to park city. if things had gone per steven's plan, i would have thought we were going on a drive through the canyon, and somewhere along the way i would have realized that he secretly packed my bag and we were going to park city. whoops.

steven made a reservation at the sundial lodge, which is part of the canyons resort.  it was very nice. see photos below. [they aren't very good quality.]

ow ow!

there's just something about staying in a nice hotel.

our view
the hotel/lodge was pretty ghost-townish because it is the off season. the summer season starts next month and the winter is over, so it didn't cost too much and also i think we were one of the only ones, if not the only ones, there.

the next morning we ran over to whole foods market for breakfast.
let me tell you: i love me some whole foods! trader joe's + whole foods is like bliss. i want a TJ's first. [side note: there was a TJ's right across the street from steven's place in D.C. and that made me so happy.] we picked up some food and brought it back to the hotel to eat before we were off galavanting around.

first stop was the outlet mall. obviously. but really it was just to return a pair of shorts steven got from banana. and we both tried on a few things. and steven got a shirt. that boy does not need any new clothes! he got a ton last year from the banana outlet before we got married and got a bunch of new dress clothes the last month.  he is set. me? yeah, i need an update. #fashionrut
okay, but really i got a few new things from banana the other weekend when we were there and have picked up a few other things over the last month, too.

i digress. so after the stop at the outlets, we headed over to the olympic park. the 2002 olympic games were held in salt lake city. some things were in park city. and one thing was in provo...less than .5 mile away from our apartment. crazy.
here are a few pictures. it's pretty cool.

i think this was the ski jump or something like that.

also the ski jump thingy.

the luge / bobsled track. so cool. cool runnings.

there is one of these olympic stand things by our apartment. i feel famous.

there just so happened to be a ton of snow left [see photos above] and steven just so happened to bring the skis he doesn't own and his yellow jumpsuit i've never seen. sike.

also, you may not know this, but steven was one of the guys in cool runnings. looks can change.

of course, wallsburg sign for paparupa.
i love this picture of paparupa. he really is just so happy here. we pulled over just so he could take a picture with this sign.

well friends. that is all. actually, i will give an epilogue.

epilogue

this is what happened on our actual anniversary.
actually, i decided i would add that to another post. so sorry, you will have to wait my friends. plus, it's like 9.24 pm and i need to go to bed. i'm exhausted. [5 more days of school for me!!!!]
