weekend.
steven's family was heading to CA for a quick Disneyland trip. we decided to tag along.
here are a few photos en route [on our trip home, actually.]
utah has been extremely kind to us this year and has kept winter in the 30's and 40's. yeah! there have been some days in the 20's, but mostly in the 30's. that's incredible. no single digits this year! however...on our trip back, we hit a snow storm in cedar city. i was a little nervous and may have told steven to slow down like 4 times, even though we were going relatively slow. and now it is wednesday and it is mostly melted. like one of those "snow today, gone tomorrow" snowfalls in early spring. love it.
it's been a whopping 2 years since i've been to disneyland (3.5 since california adventures, but we didn't go there this trip).
steven's little sister, andi, hasn't seen hardly any disney movies! this was her "first" trip to disneyland (she was like 3 her first time) and i told her we had to go on the peter pan ride. best ride. i'm partially bias to the ride for multiple reasons: 1) i have the heart of a first grader when it comes to these things, 2) i loooove disney's peter pan (and frequently desire to watch it but i don't have it on dvd), 3) i just read peter pan to my kiddos at school, and 4) you are flying on the ride. how cool is that? also i love cool clocks and i've always wanted to go to london, so the "big ben"-ish clock tower in front of the ride makes my heart skip a beat.
we rode space mountain twice. i love that ride. no matter how many times i've been on it, i am always so hesitant to put my hands up because i am afraid that they will hit a bar and fall off, although, my arms are probably not what they measured by...
michael's shirt for his swim and dive team. like that song, "i'm sexy and i know it...i work out." i forget what the front of it said, but i loved it. erin, wouldn't it be so cool if it were a body pump shirt? uh, totally yeah.
mi amor.
[please excuse the man's arm, but this was the best one of us of all the iphone photos we snapped of this.]
after spending all day at disneyland on friday, steven and i spent the day with my fam on saturday. i hit up body combat with my mom on saturday am. we're both pretty hardcore...and we're 30 years apart, so what does that tell you about my mom? [because we all know that i am pretty intense, especially when it comes to body combat.] the whole fam [minus all of the cousins :(] hit up stonefire for a late lunch. steven and i have been craving it for quite some time and getting picture texts from erin and mike every time they go [or when erin's work caters it], only makes the cravings worse! we were so glad to finally satisfy our tastebuds...and we totally did!
our weekend was fabulous. i so miss being home. i haven't been able to spend much quality time at home. every time has been for weddings--erin's, mine, katie's, claire's. they've all been quick trips that have been occupied by errands and weddings. all good things though. i'm anxious to spend some quality time there in the summer [fingers super crossed!!]
v.day.
let me just tell you--any holiday at school is crazy. especially halloween because of the costumes and candy. and leading up to thanksgiving because it's a holiday with a break. and leading up to christmas because santa is coming and there's tons of sweets and there's a break. and v.day. you would think it would be easier than the others but oy vey! it is so NOT. the kids are just jumping out of their little snowboots to pass out their valentines and they have all of this candy and it's just too much for their little selves. needless to say, teaching was so difficult yesterday and i was exhausted when the school day ended [finally].
steven and i decided to keep it super simple this year. no gifts because we just spent money going to california. and i told steven no gifts. he knows to listen to me. i made steven french toast for breakfast (and was nearly late for my 8 am meeting!) and an egg in a heart shaped pan (thanks g.ma!). later that night, steven took me to baskin robbins where we had our very first date, not our 2nd first date when we weren't separated since, but our very first date--short and simple. it was sentimental and fun to reenact that night. and yes, we did reeanct that night a little bit...so how many siblings do you have? oh singles dating. i haven't missed you!
on a side note--i got a picture text last night of mike's finger with a huge gash in it and a bloody towel. yeah, he cut his finger while trimming the flowers he bought for erin. ended up spending some time in the e.r. [where erin totally passed out and lost her dinner] and mike got 9 stitches. happy vday!
here are some cute valentine's i got from school yesterday.
sweet kids.
so my sweet crazy boy. he tries so hard. he is the sweetest boy. he's the one that sang the song about Jesus that he made up [here]wrote me this letter during his "work on writing" daily 5 yesterday. he just has the most difficult time ever trying to channel his energy. great academically, just so crazy.
so this boy came in today when the first bell rang and when the second bell rang, but for some reason, after the announcements, he was m.i.a. it was like 7 minutes into school and he was totally m.i.a. he didn't ask to use the restroom, and no one in the class knew where he was. so, i was going to take the lunch count then have the office call him down. well, he came back right before and i asked,
"jake, where did you go?"
with his big, innocent eyes he looked up at me and playing with his little mittened hands said, "i was welcoming people."
i kind of laughed, no i did laugh, and said, "jake that is SO sweet! but the bell rang bud and you need to be in class! i didn't know where you were. where did you go?"
"well i just went outside to welcome everyone coming in!"
that kid has a heart of gold. i saw his dad at our spelling bee today because his brother was in it and i caught him in the hall during recess and told him this little story. he told me that even though he is crazy, he tries so hard. at their family prayer time in the morning, they talk about how he will behave at school and then he said that jake will pray that he will be the best student and will be good and will be a peacemaker. SO DARN CUTE!! he's like the sweetest kid, and at the same time he is like kevin from home alone running around the house. totally. love it.
got this letter today...
and this letter, too...i put the post-it notes over the last line because he drew a picture of a little cell phone and wrote his phone number! SO PRECIOUS!!!
"i love you and i can't think of the sweetist thing to say."
MELT. MY. HEART!
i seriously love teaching first grade even though i have one difficult, chatty, rowdy class this year. it still is such a blessing to be teaching these precious souls.
still juicing and so obsessed. and reading a fabulous book on it. it's so dang good for you. i'll post on juicing another day.
okay i'm done.
