school on friday. cah-razy.

forward: i originially intended on posting this on friday after school...but i got home and didn't open my computer until now, sunday evening.

1) buzz cut. one of my kids came in with a fresh new barely-there buzz cut.  another student of mine said, "don't worry you are bald now but it will grow back and you will have hair again." [this probably isn't nearly as funny if you don't know this student.  it was so cute.]

2) cologne. my sweet little crazy boy (see previous story where he was welcoming students to school...after the bell rang) came in with his hair all parted and combed and a plaid shirt tucked into his jeans. he was talking to me and i noticed it smelled like men's cologne.  "did you spray some stuff on you this morning?" and he got this huge grin on his face and said, "yeah! i got it for christmas when i was 5!" "oh is it cologne?" "yeah!" so dang cute.

3) assembly. we had some crazy, and i mean CRAZY assembly today. this man came with 2363498 reptiles. barf. i hate reptiles. so he pulled out like a bunch of different animals including: a tarantula, black scorpion, tortoise, komodo dragon, something bigger than a komodo dragon from Argentina, a 5 foot (tail included) alligator, a gopher snake (they live in utah and i almost stepped on one once), an anaconda, a python, and some other snake that is bigger than a python (i think it's still a python, just a different species). it was huge. and i mean HUGE. and then he laid it on the ground and let the kids touch it afterward. YUCK! it was crazy. kids were screaming the whole time and yelling "YES!" and "NO!" every time the guy asked a question. #rookiemistake. this was supposed to be like 45 minutes long and relate to reading.  the guy mentioned, mentioned reading like 3 times and it was like, "do you know how i learned this stuff? i read it in a book!"  "read what interests you! i am interested in reptiles so i read about them!" and "you can read about reptiles!" and it was 70 minutes long.

4) CAMO! during lunch one of my little boys...(the one that always says, "seriously you just look so good today. seriously!" and "you look much more better today than yesterday.  seriously!" and "when i sit over there at my desk and your ears, it looks like you have pointy ears." and he adds "seriously! i'm serious!" to about 75% of the things he says. love it.) anyway, he came in the classroom holding a bag and wasn't wearing his jeans anymore but camouflage army pants! and they were like skinny army pants...odd. it was hilarious and he had this huge toothless grin on his face and said, "i didn't pee my pants! i spilt! and i didn't want to be cold with chocolate milk, seriously!" and i replied and then he said, "the office gave me army pants! seriously!" so funny.

i love teaching first grade, even if it is causing some serious stress.
