i'll continue the remembering 9.11 blog posts.
where was i? what was i doing? what was i thinking?
i was in 7th grade getting ready for school. we had these little shower radio/cd players. i was listening to some music. my mom was in the bathroom next door [this is pre-room addition, or maybe very early stages of it] listening to the radio, as usual.
kfi, am 640.
next thing i knew, she was out of the shower with a towel on saying, "oh my gosh, one of the twin towers was just hit by a plane!!"
my thoughts? 1) what are the twin towers and where are they? 2) that is really sad, how did it happen? engine failure? our of fuel?
then she comes out a little later and says, "the other tower was just hit!!!!"
the news was turned on and we watched the tower being struck by the plane and then the towers just collapsing to the ground. the dust that clouded the city. it was incredible, in a horrible way.
my cousin was attending school at the time in nyc [and still lives there]. i'm pretty positive he and his colleagues watched as the 2nd tower was hit and then collapse, what we say repeatedly on the news that day, but only in person, through a window.
my mom later explained to me the significance of this event...how the pentagon was attempted, also, what the world trade centers were, what the pentagon was [did i live in a bubble?] and terrorism. i was afraid for my life. i immediately thought of world war II and the attack on pearl harbor. was this world war 3's attack on pearl harbor?
i remember 2 songs being played that day: 1)"what's going on?" by marvin gaye [love him!] and 2) "only time" by enya [love her, too]. still, when i hear those songs, mostly "only time" when my enya playlist is on, i think of 9.11.
so many heroes. so many brave souls. so many souls lost. so many risked their lives. there was a boy at the high school whose father was on one of those planes. i didn't know who he was, or what his name was, but i saw that in the newspaper and my heart went out to him, this boy i had never met, never heard of.
i don't know the extent of my thoughts on the Gospel then, but i reflect on it now. how truly grateful i am for my testimony of our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. They live. They love us. They look out for us. They bless us. They have a Plan for us--for all of us!
We are so blessed.
have a wonderful Sabbath. It's my favorite day of the week.
and, watch this for some 9.11 inspiration. i'll be watching it and i'm sure it will be absolutely wonderful.
