kenley chronicles: first birthday!

wow.  i can't believe we are here already.  i still feel like kenley should only be about 6 months old.  she really only looks about 8 months, so maybe 8 months then.  but not 12. or, 1 i guess.  my baby is 1 year! excuse me while i wipe the tears from my face.

we celebrated kenley's one year birthday in utah at my sister's.  one sister was graduating, so the whole family was up, plus steven's mom was there for byu women's conference, so it was the best time to do it and have the most family there...or any family there.

kenley was not in the best mood when we sang happy birthday to her...i guess that's what happens when your baby is so tired from a packed week and you hold the balloons so she won't hit them into her cake with a lit candle.  so, she threw an epic tantrum as we sang happy birthday to her.  girl had no clue what was going on.  gotta love the innocence of children.

a huge thank you to erin, mike, emily, dana, and my mom for all they did to help with the party.

now, a bunch of pictures of kenley at 1. and all her tricks, because, she has a lot.

17 lbs 8 oz (gained almost 11 lbs!! 5th percentile)

27" (grew 8.5"!! 5th percentile)

and her head is in the 25th percentile...so, unproportional, but not too huge? she has a round face, but from the back it likes small and normal. 

and her cheeks are shrinking :(

 prefers drinking with a straw and is a picky eater. depends on the day for some foods, but foods she will eat 95% of the time are: avocado, bananas, oranges/cuties, pears, blueberries, strawberries...basically any fruits. yogurt, black peans, peas, chicken, turkey burgers. 

pushes buttons with her thumb or pointer finger.

she's perfected the army crawl. and she can go from crawling to sitting and sitting to crawling without freaking out now!

sometimes she hums while eating or sings softly in the car. the sweetest.

 pushes the home button on an iphone and has even called my mom using siri...not quite sure how that happened, but she loves siri.

dances / wiggles alllll the time. mostly to music, but a lot of times, it's just a random wiggle while she's playing with a book or some other toy or eating.

 brushes her hair, puts on headbands and shoes.

i've caught her quite a few times putting on my headbands horseshoe style, just resting on her head.  she will balance it and then wiggle her head back and forth.  it is hilarious.

 she got her license.

(that's up and down, people. it's only actually been 10 trips. thank you, layovers. and thank you southwest for always having a million stops.)

tosses a ball with daddy.

catches the ball when daddy drops it to her belly when she's on her back.

pretty much has no concept of walking, but just the last few days she will take a step toward her table if you push it away a little bit. and she can fall on her bum without crying! these are great accomplishments. she can pull herself up sometimes.  still working on that.

shares her food. i don't always want to eat a soggy rice cake.

loves the swing (hmm...that's no surprise.)

understands and will follow simple directions, like 

"where's your lamb?"

"I'm gonna get you!!" (and she crawls away as fast as she can while laughing. to die for.)

"where's mama's nose?"

"kenley, where's your tongue?" (and she sticks it through her tiny smile and moves it around!)

book, yogurt, banana, all done, hair, share, waves hi/bye

snuggles that lamb every night.

says "da da" and "mama", nods "yes" a la i dream of jeannie.

{^^all tuckered out after church on her bday.}

 likes coloring (making tiny chicken scratch marks on the paper. mostly, she likes picking up the crayons, holding a bunch, putting them in and taking them out of the box.)

loves reading with mama and daddy or on her own.  she loves playing with books.
