only tuesday? seriously?
maybe it's the snow we finally got.
maybe it's because we actually have a 5 day week again.
whatever it is, my kids have been cah-razy. and it's kind of wearing me out! like, 5 hours of sleep and no, i repeat NO, gym time. okay, so it's only been 2 days of no gym time [3 if you count sunday, but i don't] but still. and i was totally planning on going to yoga tonight, but seeing that it is 6.45, i got home at 6, and have 4 tests x 24 students to grade + 2 lessons to plan for tomorrow + yesterday's dishes, then no. i won't be leaving in an hour to go to yoga. and steven and i both left at 7.30 am this morning, only i get to come home and work til 9 [ha, last night it was like 10.30pm] but he is gone til 9 in meetings and classes and working.
anyway...enough of my rambling. there's always a little light somewhere, right?
enter: apple slices.
my sweet crazy boy has been having a hard time. surprise. he is an excellent reader and was actually reading with the sound-blocking earphones for quite some time today [we talked about getting lost in a book yesterday--the kids ate it up!] so we went to rotations...i taught a different 1st grade class and my kids went to another. when they were coming back in the room, i noticed this boy's lunch bag on the table outside our room. so, i gave it to him as he entered and told him to put it in his backpack. i showed the class this little 2 minute youtube music video [see below] and we discussed it afterward. well, i stood up in front of the class and there was this little boy sitting at his desk [not at the carpet like the rest of the class] and he was munching on some apples from his lunch bag! i couldn't help but laugh. it was so funny! i just asked him, "what are you doing?!" he just looked at me with this uh-duh,-i'm-eating-my-apple-slices look on his face and said, "i saved these so i could have a little snack later!" well, 1st grade teachers are dream squashers, so i told him to put them away.
just like i told the other 23 kids..."no your ankle isn't broken you'll be fine."
"no, you don't have frostbite, just take your shoes off."
"are you bleeding? did you throw up? are you going to throw up? are you going to pee your pants? are you dying? is someone really hurt? no? then don't talk to me during centers."
"it's just a little cut, you'll be fine."
"ah! guess what?! you're alive! it's okay!"
"don't call people "pickles"."
"no it's not lunch time. it's only 10.30."
"you're dizzy? go get a drink and sit down."
"your tummy hurts? i think you're just hungry. get a drink and keep working. it's almost lunch time."
wah-wah.
will.i.am
found this little delight on a teacher's blog i follow. um, my kids LOVED it. i think i may have enjoyed it more than them, though. which is part of the reason why we watched it again at the end of the day.
catchy beat.
i just told them it was will.i.am from the black eyed peas. and the kids that didn't know who they were, i said they sing, "i've gotta feeling!" and they were all like, "OH YEAH! I LOVE THAT SONG!!"
enjoy. and you're welcome.
