i love my little first graders.
they say the funniest things!
this is what i heard today:
one of my little girls came up during writer's workshop and said, "teacher can i tell you something? don't tell anyone else." [i had just told the class a "secret" and said that--don't tell anyone else. the secret was that illustrators try their very best when they don't think they can draw something.]
anyway. she tells me this secret:
"yesterday i took a chicken bone home and gave it to my dog."
i literally burst out laughing and said, "a chicken bone from the school lunch?" because they had chicken wings.
it was hilarious. gosh i love these kids!
also, this boy had an emergency appendectomy and will be out for the next week or longer. i am so sad! what am i going to do when no one is telling me he likes my belt or that i look so good, seriously.
and...add 2 more apples to my apple count. i've gotten 7! they just keep bringing them because their friends do. i think i might stop buying apples!
**ADDENDUM**
[2 hours later]
i was telling the class about the boy that had an appendectomy and how our other friend in our class is sick on his birthday! then i started going all health-nutty on them and we talked about the things that we need to do to stay healthy:
1) sleep!
2) drink lots of water
3) eat healthy foods
4) exercise
and when we were talking about healthy [or healfy to some] foods, we listed some veggies, fruits, etc. that are good and things that weren't so good. one boy raised his hand and said, "yeah, and if you eat too much junk food [emphasis on the junk food, then your bum will bleed."
he said it so matter-of-factly. almost like he's had some sort of personal experience with it. i was trying so hard not to laugh. i had this huge smile on my face. it was hilarious!!
those kids!
